This is a day where we can raise awareness about this treatable and manageable disease. In December 2021 this mother arrived at MAITRI with her daughter after being rejected by her husband due to the social stigma. Her body was disfigured by severe type 2 leprosy reaction. After 5 months of intensive treatment at MAITRI her reaction subsided, her appearance recovered and she could be released from our hospital with the confidence that her life could continue as before.
