First of all I want to apologize for missing out on our quarterly appointment that should have been at the end of August, instead of September. Weatherwise, the four months were clearly proof of climate change in action, as this period used to be centered on the incoming monsoon and its development, which would bring […]
Weatherwise, we had the longest cold winter that started prematurely at the end of October and stretched all over up to the entire month of January and beginning of February. Our blankets have never been received so happily as this year, almost 1,100 were distributed. Read more
Leprosy is still endemic in India and is still widespread among the lower castes, who often live in unsanitary and overcrowded dwellings. Lack of proper education in villages and of proper government field service also contributes to the unchecked spreading of the disease. MAITRI however tirelessly continues its selfless service to the population in the […]
Blanket Distribution & New Program To bear the early cold wave on 9th November we distributed warm sweaters to our inpatients and on the 14th we started the annual distribution of blanketsto needy persons selected by our paramedical workers from the villages they visit. Our work continues and we can become preoccupied by the people and animals before us and […]
Losar (Tibetan New Year) is coming soon (10th Feb this year). This is a great day to rejoice in other’s kindness! From all of us, a big thank you to Otto Per Mille of the Waldensian Church, helping MAITRI since 2004 (including MAITRI’s TB program 2020 and Mother & Child program 2021). The Fifteen Days […]
Following the weather situation at 40% of the annual monsoon rain average described in the previous e-news in Gaya District, by September vast expanses of land showed failed crops. However in the second half of the month very heavy showers occurred almost daily up to the first part of October thus re-establishing the balance of the rain […]
In the previous news I wrote about the heat coming on heavily in May, but actually something much worse than that hit us unexpectedly in June with a steady torrid heat that lasted for three weeks. Relief came with early monsoon rains, but alas after the first illusion of a good monsoon the rains continued very erratically […]
